This program is for parents and guardians whose youth is experiencing difficulties due to the use of alcohol and/or drugs.  Parents and guardians are eligible to participate in this group whether or not their youth is currently enrolled in a Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre Program.  Parent Education is a structured evening group.  Participants not only learn from our trained Substance Abuse Counsellors, but also from the experiences of other participants..  Topics covered during group sessions include: the physical, behavioural, and psychological effects of alcohol and drugs on youth; techniques for coping with your youth's substance abuse; effective communication; crisis management; and parental legal rights and responsibilities.  The program also includes a number of guest speakers knowledgeable in these areas.  The Parent Education Program is provided on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
